Each contestant picks one box which potentially contains their prize. At the beginning of each programme, one contestant is chosen from the line up at random, either from the 'West Wing' or the 'East Wing'. The first round of the game begins when the playing contestant chooses the first of the initial five boxes to open. The player then spends the duration of the show opening the remaining cases, one at a time, revealing the money value they contain. The contestant must decide, as the game goes on whether they accept the sum of money that is concealed within their own box, or accept an offer from 'The Banker'. Does their sealed box contain, as Noel calls it, 'a life-changing sum of money', or just the bus fare home? Once a box is chosen to be opened, the box, and the cash sum inside it, is then taken out of play. With the ultimate aim of the game, to try and pick boxes that contain the lesser amounts of money, adding hope that the contestant’s box contains one of the high quantities of money and in turn evoking The Banker to offer the contestant better deals, box by box. The Banker has no idea what the contestant's sealed box contains and is always watching the player, trying to guage their psychology. The Banker's sole aim is to try and ensure the player leaves the studio with as little money possible! The Banker makes a cash offer to buy the sealed box based on the amounts of money the player has eliminated and his perception of the player themselves. Whenever The Banker makes an offer, the player is left with a choice to either accept the deal, or take a risk to improve thwe next offer or stay the distance for what they believe to be in their box. Of course they could losing everything. If the contestant has rejected every offer that The Banker makes, they will be left with just two boxes: their own and one other remaining box. At this point they may be offered the oppirtunity to exchange boxes. Finally opening their box to discover what is within and find out whether they Were they wise to gamble and reject The Banker’s offers? If during the earlier part of the game a contestant chooses to accept The Banker’s offer by saying "Deal," the game is still played out in exactly the same way to determine whether the contestant dealt at the optimum time, or whether had they kept playing they would have gained a greater sum of money. |
